PLAYLISTS
A NOTE
‘68 to ‘05 began as a playlist project in January of 2020. Something to help me build small maps of the decades I decided most impacted me as a listener of music. Years that gave my people the music they loved & passed along to me until I found my own independent affections, inspired by their history of living and listening. I’ve expanded this into a website for playlists to live, yes. But also a home for those who might enjoy music rabbit holes, as I do. An archive of concert footage, and of old magazine covers. There are currently playlists for 19 years on the site. I will add more at a gradual pace. The playlists are sprawling, encompassing songs that paint an almost complete picture of music I love, that you might love. But, to push this beyond my own personal obsession, about twice a month, I’ll bug one of my writer pals, or musician pals, or music fan pals, and ask them to write a small essay in praise of or in reflection of an album (within this window of years) that changed their life. My hope is that through this, there’s a way to reach some healthy and exciting levels of communal fandom. I hope you’ll share this, and keep up with this little vision of mine.
